Seventh World Congress of Pediatric Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery in Barcelona

BARCELONA, SPAIN, July 18, 2017 – The 7th World Congress of Pediatric Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery (WCPCCS) is taking place from July 16-21st at the Centre Convencions Internacional de Barcelona. The aim of WCPCCS is to bring together all professionals involved in the care of children’s heart disease and congenital heart disease of all ages, from the fetus to the aged. The Congress provides a unique opportunity to meet the leaders of specialties worldwide; to learn about the latest innovations and the results of procedures; and to contribute to the discussions, debates and plenary sessions with renowned speakers.

The central philosophy of the Congress is “bridging together” all major specialties in the field. Accordingly, the scientific program is carefully planned to address all interests and expertise with concentration streams on pediatric cardiology, pediatric cardiac surgery, adult congenital heart diseases, anesthesia, intensive care and nursing.

On July 18th, Dr. Novick’s presentation was entitled “Early Results and Long-Term Follow-Up: Double Patch Flap Valve VSD Closure in Patients with Pulmonary Hypertension and Elevated Pulmonary Vascular Resistance.” Dr. Novick presented his research on the use of a double patch flap to repair ventricular septal defects (VSDs) in patients with pulmonary hypertension to a room full of international medical professionals.

Often in developing countries, congenital heart defects are not diagnosed until the child is much older and having serious complications. Cardiologists and surgeons must utilize innovative techniques to help repair these heart defects that present late in life. Dr. Novick utilizes this type of patch and has educated the team in Kiev, Ukraine on its advantage. In this collaboration, Novick has gathered research from over 20 years of patients. Utilizing this surgical technique, surgeons do not need to refuse to operate on patients with VSDs that have pulmonary hypertension. Later this year, Dr. Novick will make a similar presentation at a conference in Russia.
